Two Seaside Babes Blogging Schedule

This year, Two Seaside Babes will be dedicating each day of the week to a specific blogging topic that is not only important to me as an Indie artist trying to succeed, but also to my fellow artists looking for the same thing. I also want to keep my customers informed of Two Seaside Babes products, upcoming shows, and features.

Mondays will be devoted to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and what you as an artist can do to help yourself and your site be found in Search Engines. This is something that I was introduced to this year and found tremendous success through my efforts. Each week will devoted to one particular way of optimizing your ability to be found by search engines.

Tuesdays will be devoted to the happenings of Two Seaside Babes. New products, sneak peeks, upcoming show information, giveaways, and any other pertinent information will be addressed on this day of the week.

Wednesdays will be devoted to whatever strikes my fancy that day *smiles*

Thursdays will be devoted to finding success, whether it be selling on Etsy, 1000 Markets, Artfire, or any of the other handmade-selling venues. I would also like to address offline venues such as craft fairs and art festival, paying particular attention to the details that have allowed me to become successful.

Fridays will be devoted to my Etsy finds of the week, paying particular attention to artists from the two Etsy teams that I belong to, the Homefront Team, and the INCrowd Team. Each Friday will featured a few artists' pieces that I found to be especially beautiful, intriguing, or something that simply catches my eye.

My hope is that my posts help you in some way, shape, or form to become successful in your endeavors. May this new year be filled with bountiful production, hard-earned prosperity, and positivism. Best to you and yours this new year!

2009 Signature Hat: The Flower Beanie

Two Seaside Babes has introduced the new signature hat for the Fall/Winter Season. Like the Buckle Beanie, it is crocheted with a wonderfully soft wool/acrylic blend yarn. It sits higher on the head than the Buckle Beanie. Instead of the belt and buckle, this one has a giant two layer flower crocheted in a contrasting color.

I'm particularly fond of this one (if I can say so myself) ;) It is crocheted with my most popular color, taupe. It is accented with pink blossom, my newest color. I adore the brown and pink color combination, as it has been so popular over the past couple years. I want to try other color combinations out, and would love to hear what suggestions you all might have!

In the meantime, you can look for new colors popping up in Two Seaside Babes soon!

Find of the Day: KristynsKreations

Now that it’s the dead of summer, the sun sets really late and rises really early. Way too early for a night owl such as myself. And sometimes my black velvet curtains just aren’t enough to shoo the light away. KristynsKreations on Etsy has a wonderful and stylish solution to this seemingly never-ending problem. This Skull n Bones eye mask would not only do wonders to keep the sun from my eyes, but would also keep my babes from thinking that I’m awake and ready to get up. For $10, I could save myself a little sleep, and my sanity.

Find of the Day: lifeisonlyillusion

This summer, it’s been all about the dresses for me. Ever since having children, I don’t care to wear shorts anymore, but frankly in this oppressively hot summer, pants are just not going to cut it. So I’ve been wearing dresses all the time. Long dresses, short dresses, tube top dresses, spaghetti strap dresses, sun dresses. You get the point. So when I went browsing on Etsy for some more dresses to add to my collection (it’s getting kind of big by now) I came across flamingo dress by lifeisonlyillusion. For $69, this fun, flirty, and sexy dress would be the perfect addition as a daytime dress, but also quite lovely for a night out on the town. Now if only I could dance the flamingo…

Find of the Day: caterpillars

I anticipate moving from this home soon and have been browsing the wonderful works found on Etsy for items to cover the walls of my new home. I've always been fond of the sea (in case my store name wasn't a clear indicator) and would like to carry that with me. I'm not talking that beachy theme though...I love contemporary items with clean lines, sharp definition, and very contrasting colors. And that is probably why this striking print of Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach by caterpillars on Etsy struck me so. Holding my two favorite colors (black and blue) it will coordinate amazingly with my collection of cobalt blue glass. For $30, this 8" x 12" photo will definitely add a flair of dramatic to my walls.

Find of the Day: kamlampcompany

I know, I know, you can stop scolding me. Personal matters have kept me from posting my Find of the Day. No frets however, as I am back in full swing and gladly sharing the wonderful finds of Etsy.

Today’s Find of the Day is one I stumbled up quite some time ago. This absolutely stunning creations is definitely on my want list, considering I might be moving soon **crossing my fingers**. I’m a more contemporary and modern kind of girl and this piece by kamlampcompany on Etsy sure fits the bill. This 18” drum shade pendant is woven with black ribbon, painstaking done to create tiny hints of light that peek through the intersections. It’s absolutely stunning to see both lit and unlit. For $400, this is definitely something I would trade every single one of my traditional d├ęcor lights in for. Now if only someone would give it to me as a housewarming gift **crossing my fingers**.

The Neapolitan Collection by Suymey Benson

I just received my photos from Suymey Benson at Blossom Portraiture Art. A few days ago I had sent her an absolutely delicious goody box filled with Neapolitan crocheted yummies. This gorgeous collection of photos is what I got in return, which is so much better than the 10 pounds I typically get with real Neapolitan ;) The strawberry pinks, vanilla creams, and chocolate browns found in Neapolitan ice cream are the perfect colors for this season yet again. The colors are modern and mature, but still have that girly touch to them. While I whittle away at my yarn stash to create more goodies, please satisfy your cravings with this tidbit of flapper beanies, crocheted beaded necklace, and signature Buckle Beanie. All of these items can be found in Two Seaside Babes. And if you'd like to see more of Suymey's gorgeous work, please visit here.

Carmel Fest 2009

Two Seaside Babes participated as a vendor in Carmel Fest 2009. It was my first show and I was quite pleased with how well it went, considering the amount of money I spent preparing for it and the time getting ready. It was a wonderful opportunity to get out and sell my product in person, to network with other crafters and professionals, and to enjoy the sites of the festival. The first day was wonderfully sunny but the second day rained. Regardless, I still consider it a wonderful success.

I was excited how my booth setup turned out. I had two 6 foot tables, a blanket rack, and a tri-fold screen as my main product displays. I created hat stands from wood and painted them blue and white, while weathering them to create that "beachy" look. I covered my tables in light blue covers and had PVC racks attached to the backs to hang my fuzzy blankets. A wooden blanket rack was created graciously by my beau, along with a tri-fold screen made of wood and lattice to hold all my hair clips. I could not have been more pleased with how easy and professional looking I felt my booth looked. I softened the entire booth by hanging white sheers from the canopy (something that got me many compliments from the other vendors).

Here is the front of the booth prior to the start of the festival. The next show I do, I would definitely like to add some more things to the booth. I would like to hang a full length mirror horizontally from the canopy so that numerous people can try hats on and see how they look. I had a tiny stand mirror that didn't work well for this. I would also like to add a tarp to the back side of the canopy for shade and weather protection. The first day I got burnt. The second day I had to sit my director's chair in the tent to keep from being wet. I would also like to add an inexpensive outdoor rug in a sandy color to cover the concrete and to ease the weary feet of my customers.

I found that color coordinating slightly allowed customers to find what they were looking for much more easily. I think it was also more pleasing on the eye. My little octopi were the smash of my booth! They attracted so many kiddies who thus forced their parents to come in and check out my products. As a note to myself, I must remember to crochet many, many more Amigurumi creatures as these were probably what brought the most amount of people in. And I sold quite a few too! Surprisingly however, these were items that I was considering doing away with on Etsy.

Of course, my Buckle Beanies went over very well. It's quite comforting to know how many people loved this hat. Even in the hot Summer sun, my wool Buckle Beanies were still being tried on, bought, ogled, and commented on. And in the pouring rain, the cotton ones were being purchased to keep heads dry.

Two items of mine that were also surprising hits were my adult cloches and my cotton flapper beanies. I only had 3 cloches in the booth and 2 sold. I decided to crochet up a few more different colors to offer for my Autumn and Winter shows, and also on Etsy. I also sold a number of flapper beanies, but was disappointed that I hadn't crocheted more in larger sizes as that was what most customers were asking for.

My crocheted children's necklaces were commented on to death! But none sold, so I was a little disappointed in this. But they were eye-catchers, so I will definitely keep those for future shows. My hair clips were also a slight disappointment as I didn't sell as many as I thought I would. My Neapolitan ones, however were a big hit, so that is definitely something I need to make more of.

Overall, I made sales totalling almost 4 times my booth fee (which was a hefty sum). While I didn't profit anything due to costs in materials preparing for this show, I'm confident that my next show will bring me profits. To anyone considering Carmel Fest for future shows, I highly recommend it. The other vendors were professional, kind, and helpful. The staff was supportive and wonderfully communicative. The festival atmosphere was utterly festive. And I would definitely be remiss to not mention that amazing display of fireworks (my daughters saw the fireworks for the first time and were amazed!).

Find of the Day: Yoopers

My find of the day also happens to be a purchase that I just received in my PO box today. Two Seaside Babes will be participating in this years Carmel Fest in Carmel, Indiana. This being my first craft show, I knew my best bet for keeping my cash, business cards, credit card swiper, and all the little odds and ends secure and tucked away in one organized place, was a craft apron. I had found Yoopers on Etsy some time ago and marked her as a favorite for I knew that I definitely wanted to purchase my apron from her.

I finally found one that I really wanted. This funky pink and brown print apron is absolutely just what I was looking for. This "works" apron has three large pockets, including one with a hidden zipper, a pen compartment, a business card pocket, and a clasp to hold my key rings. Ranging from $18 to $26, Yoopers' sturdy aprons will last for many, many shows to come.

Professional Photos done by Suymey Benson

For some time now I've known that I wanted to take Two Seaside Babes in a much more professional direction. I already devote a majority of my time to crocheting the actual products and trying to create new items not yet listed in my shop. I'm blogging, twittering, keeping up with Facebook and MySpace, among dozens of other things. The one thing I really truly struggle with in maintaining a professional feel is my photographs.

I'm a photographer by no means at all. I'm horrible. I'll admit it. I know nothing about lighting and focus., about capturing my subject. I feel that it shows in my product pictures and I despise how unprofessional I feel that it makes Two Seaside Babes look. So I could not have been more surprised to have Suymey Benson of Blossom Portraiture Art contact me to photograph my products. I'm familiar with Suymey and her work so I was elated to jump at the chance.

I sent her a goodie box filled with Buckle Beanies galore and a custom child's beaded necklace to boot. What I got in return was absolutely priceless. Suymey's work is stunning and her attention to each and every detail is evident in her beautiful photos. A wonderfully kind, hard working, and very dedicated woman, her personalized work has helped to put that "professional" stamp upon Two Seaside Babes and I am utterly grateful. It is my utmost pleasure to have her work grace the shop of Two Seaside Babes.

Please feel free to check out Suymey's work at to see first-hand the quality of work that Blossom Portraiture Art produces with heart and soul.

Find of the Day: HeyMieMie

I'll never be the kind of woman that prefers a bouquet of flowers on the table. Instead, I'll take a pretty bowl and fill it with shells or river rocks, arrange a button bouquet from KreatedbyKelly, or a place these fabric birds in a vase. Created by HeyMieMie on Etsy, these vase fillers or cake toppers are the perfect solution for those women that see a waste of money spent on flowers that won't live a week. For $56, these are way less expensive than a bouquet of roses. Any woman can appreciate this bouquets longevity and price tag.

Limited Edition Silk and Bamboo Buckle Beanie

I came across this stunning yarn the other day. Patons makes this luxuriously soft silk and bamboo blend yarn that has the most gorgeous sheen to it. At 3 times more expensive than what I typically crochet my Buckle Beanies out of, I was quite hesitant to create one using this yarn. But I did, and I could not be more pleased. This lightweight Buckle Beanie is absolutely perfect for the warmer weather. But it's also warm enough for the cooler weather. I have about 12 colors that I want to try out, but I'm waiting to see the views and possible hearts this first one might receive. I crocheted it in a lovely but neutral shade of Almond. It can be found on Etsy in the Two Seaside Babes store.

Prices are as follows:
$42.00 9 - 12 Month: 17" - 18"
$44.00 1T - 2T: 18" - 19 1/2"
$46.00 2T - 4T: 19 1/2" - 20 1/2"
$48.00 4T - preteen: 20 1/2" - 21 1/2"
$50.00 Adult: 21 1/2" +

Find of the Day: krisjean

I stumbled across krisjean on Etsy's Pounce (where I find most of my favorites). This amazingly talented artist uses bold colors, contrasts, and lines in what she terms, "Pop-o-licious" art. Truly unique and utterly gorgeous, this item is a particular favorite of mine. As a woman, do I really need to go in depth as to why I love it so? OK...I will...I adore how the shadows strike the eye first as digital manipulations. But they are not. It is truly a masterpiece for the artist to see how the shadows can interact with one another. For $400, this beautiful and piece can grace your walls (and your imagination).

Find of the Day: Sandmaiden

I have been an admirer of Sandmaiden on Etsy for quite some time now, so it's only fitting that I choose them as my Find of the Day. I stumbled across their store again in Pounce (like I always do) and found this gorgeous little number in a stunning emerald color. Made of a bamboo and organic cotton, it can also be made in eight other wonderful colors. This chemise would be perfect for lounging around the house or even in town (because I'll definitely do both). This flattering dress can be yours for only $66.

Professional Photos done by Virginia Payne

I could not be more excited (or pleased) to have one new listing in my store with absolutely gorgeous professional photos, done by Virginia Payne. Virginia is an amazingly talented photographer that specializes in fine art portraits of newborns, babies, children, families, and expecting mothers. She photographs in and around Northern Virginia, Maryland and the greater Washington DC metro area.

Her artistic and newborn images are absolutely to die for! The emotion and connection captured between newborns and the parents is priceless and it makes me wish that my babes were just a wee bit tinier so I could go back and get artistic photos of them. However, I live vicariously through the beautiful work of Virginia, whose delightful work graces the shop of Two Seaside Babes.

Find of the Day: TimelessVixenVintage

I found this dress by way of the daily Etsy Finds. TimelessVixenVintage was featured with her Vintage Fred Perlberg gorgeous couture party dress. While that dress in itself was absolutely stunning, I completely fell in love with this 1950's Vintage Coquette Couture Wedding Dress. While I have no intentions of getting married again (and subsequently divorced), for $480 I might rethink that philosophy of mine simply because of this dress.

Find of the Day: lightheaded

So most people who know me realize this Find of the Day is perhaps a wee bit biased. Nonetheless, I still love this lamp by lightheaded on Etsy. Creatively made out of a Pinnacle Citrus liquor bottle, this lamp will add flair to any bar, office, library or dorm room. Don't like Pinnacle? Perhaps you're a Jack Daniels, Jagermeister, Patron, or Crown Royal fan. Regardless, you can purchase any lamp without a shade for $25. What better way to recycle than to reuse as something more beautiful? Now if only they weren't empty...

Find of the Day: ColorfulDesigns

I actually stumbled upon ColorfulDesigns after finding that they had hearted Two Seaside Babes. Yes, I always check out the stores of those who heart me. Sometimes I heart them in return if I really love their products. And oh boy, do I love ColorfulDesigns! Selling 100% pure mineral makeup in gorgeous shades that would fit any number of skin tones, this fairly new Etsy store is definitely going to leave their mark on the handmade community. I'm especially eyeing (no pun intended) this beautiful collection of Teddy Bear eye shadows. For $12.95 this set of 5 will make any woman's eyes look subtle yet dramatically stunning!

Find of the Day: laurenmytime

Everyone (ok girls and women) likes to receive a special card for those special moments. We like to think that someone took a bit of extra time to make something nice for us or to pick something nice out that was made just for us. Or maybe it's just me. Regardless, I think this pretty card created by laurenmytime on Etsy is the perfect something for that perfect someone. For $4.50, this purple pretty is sure to brighten yours or your babes day.
